Community-minded. Future-focused.

A spirit of collaboration guides our public-private partnerships so that we can achieve big things. Charlotte is partnering with civic and business leaders to break barriers, lift up communities, and create a more sustainable future for all.

Sustainability
In Charlotte, our sustainability initiatives go beyond new parks and greenways. We are stepping away from reliance on nonrenewable resources and establishing innovative practices to become a greener city. First up is a public-private partnership to create an innovation center that showcases closed-loop recycling systems, and a revamped program that rewards participants who use recycled goods to develop new products. Our new Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP) includes a goal to reduce emissions from its fleet to 100% zero carbon sources by 2030.

Technology & Innovation
This is a city of innovators and always has been. Our tech talent is outpacing other cities — we’re #1 for growth — and our civic partners are finding ways to support tech across companies and industries. The City is committed to expanding access to technology and jobs, and supports several nonprofits that prepare our residents for careers in tech.

Racial Equity & Economic Mobility
The City of Charlotte, along with private companies, have committed $250 million toward improving racial equity through the Mayor’s Racial Equity Initiative. Officials have outlined three broad areas of investment: 1) bridging the digital divide, 2) diversifying leadership of Charlotte’s biggest companies and 3) identifying and supporting the city’s “Corridors of Opportunity,” six historically neglected areas now targeted for public and private money.

Transportation & Mobility
Access for all is at the heart of our transportation ethos. The Destination CLT capital plan invested $3B into airport expansion and local light rail infrastructure. By connecting Charlotte residents with affordable public transportation, economic mobility and opportunity becomes a reality for thousands of people. So, what’s next? Additional rail lines and an urban transit hub that extends the city’s regional reach. The Charlott Comprehensive Plan will fulfill a vision of a more walkable, inclusive and sustainable future.
