People who are passionate about what they do for a living tend to light up when you ask them about it. Just talk to Margaret Wingate and Lesa Wingate, co-owners of Beauty Skin Deep, and you’ll immediately know that they’ve dedicated themselves to a profession that is both rewarding to them and impactful to the clients they serve.
Located in south Charlotte, Beauty Skin Deep helps its clients achieve personal skin care goals and needs. They offer a range of services to include aesthetics, skincare products, clinical treatments, and permanent hair removal. Self-care is important now more than ever, since the added stress COVID-19 has created within daily routines.
When their small business, like so many others, temporarily closed its doors for three months due to COVID-19, Margaret and Lesa had to quickly figure out what their next moves would be to survive.
“I’d heard about the Access to Capital Grant advertised on the radio but really had never thought about applying for a grant,” says Margaret. “While speaking with a colleague and comparing our situations, she encouraged me to go for it–I’m so glad I did!”
With more than 60 years of combined experience and expertise between them, as licensed electrologists and Lesa also being an accredited aesthetician, this mother-daughter team knows a thing or two about boosting their clients’ confidence and self-esteem. Or as Lesa says, “Who doesn’t want to look fabulous?”
Margaret further notes that the Access to Capital Grant helped to soften the unexpected loss of revenue. Receiving the grant also made it possible for them to implement extra safety measures for their clients. “I come to work and know that at the end of the day someone will feel better when they look in the mirror, or that I’ve helped an overworked mom catch her breathe with a little bit of pampering,” says Lesa. They also were able to enhance their stringent safety procedures already in place, set by the state of North Carolina, when they reopened their doors.
“This work isn’t glamorous,” said Margaret. “But it’s very rewarding, and I’ve never looked back.”
